SUMMARY:Crown Jewels Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Crown Jewels documents a year-long journey through some of the last ancient forests on US public lands\, highlighting their crucial role in protecting our land\, air\, and water. Beyond their environmental benefits\, these forests hold deep cultural and community significance as seen across West Virginia\, Wisconsin\, and Oregon. Threatened by imminent logging plans by the Forest Service\, these ecosystems face permanent destruction unless widespread support for their protection is mobilized. The film advocates for viewers to leverage their freedom of speech to transform federal land management together\, urging those who watch to join the effort through local activism and storytelling

SUMMARY:Troubled Water Screening - Fresh Coast Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:The fabulous Fresh Coast Film Festival in Marquette\, MI\, has scheduled Troubled Water\, an exhilarating adventure conservation film\, as its featured film on Friday\, October 18. You are invited!  \nTroubled Water beckons viewers to follow along on a transformative journey down the stunning coast of Lake Michigan. Lifelong friends Chris Yahanda and William Wright embark on an epic 36-day\, 425-mile standup paddleboard adventure along the Great Lakes and explore the manmade impacts of Michigan’s freshwater\, including the Enbridge Line 5 pipeline. \nThey examine the sheer significance of the Line 5 pipeline issue\, the dire need for collective action to shut it down\, and the historical precedent this movement would establish. If successfully shut down\, it would become the first active pipeline in U.S. history to be terminated before it ruptures. \nThe screening will be followed by a Q&A session with the film’s director\, Davis Huber\, subjects Chris Yahanda and OWDM’s Bill Latka. \nFresh Coast is a documentary film festival celebrating the outdoor lifestyle\, water-rich environment\, and resilient spirit of the Great Lakes and Upper Midwest. The festival spans four days and features 80+ films and endless inspiration.

SUMMARY:Troubled Water Screening with Central Sustainability
DESCRIPTION:Join Central Sustainability for a screening of the adventure/conservation documentary Troubled Water in celebration of Campus Sustainability Month. \nFollowing the film\, there’ll be a discussion on the pipeline’s challenges. \nTroubled Water chronicles a 36-day\, 425-mile journey on standup paddleboards along the Great Lakes. The film is directed by Davis Huber and produced by William Wright and Chris Yahanda. The idea was sparked by the three friends on their summer paddle trip down Michigan’s west coast. Chris received a text alert that a judge had temporarily shut down Line 5 after Canadian oil company Enbridge failed to abide by the State’s shutdown order. As the sun set over Lake Michigan\, these lifelong friends couldn’t help but wonder\, “How can any Michigander stomach the risk of an oil spill on this coastline?” Inspired to do something\, they created a film to shed light on the manmade impacts of Michigan’s freshwater\, including the Enbridge Line 5 pipeline\, which carries nearly 23 million gallons of crude oil and natural gas liquids daily beneath the Straits of Mackinac. \nThis is a great way to raise awareness of the risks associated with the aging Line 5 pipeline. \nDon’t miss the opportunity for an enlightening experience on a critical topic in our community!
