SUMMARY:Troubled Water Screening with Central Sustainability
DESCRIPTION:Join Central Sustainability for a screening of the adventure/conservation documentary Troubled Water in celebration of Campus Sustainability Month. \nFollowing the film\, there’ll be a discussion on the pipeline’s challenges. \nTroubled Water chronicles a 36-day\, 425-mile journey on standup paddleboards along the Great Lakes. The film is directed by Davis Huber and produced by William Wright and Chris Yahanda. The idea was sparked by the three friends on their summer paddle trip down Michigan’s west coast. Chris received a text alert that a judge had temporarily shut down Line 5 after Canadian oil company Enbridge failed to abide by the State’s shutdown order. As the sun set over Lake Michigan\, these lifelong friends couldn’t help but wonder\, “How can any Michigander stomach the risk of an oil spill on this coastline?” Inspired to do something\, they created a film to shed light on the manmade impacts of Michigan’s freshwater\, including the Enbridge Line 5 pipeline\, which carries nearly 23 million gallons of crude oil and natural gas liquids daily beneath the Straits of Mackinac. \nThis is a great way to raise awareness of the risks associated with the aging Line 5 pipeline. \nDon’t miss the opportunity for an enlightening experience on a critical topic in our community!

With this effort\, we’re sending a clear message: Clean water matters more than corporate pipelines! \nNow it’s time to bring it all together and make history. \nWe’ll gather as we attempt to break the world record for the largest display of origami fish\, and you’re invited to be a part of it! Imagine a display of over 30\,000 paper fish\, each one telling a story\, carrying a pledge\, and making it impossible for decision-makers to ignore the call: Shut Down Line 5! \nThis isn’t just an art installation. It’s a movement. It’s a splash of resistance. And it’s a celebration of the people who believe in a future where water is safe\, clean\, and protected. \n\nMore details coming soon\, but for now\, mark your calendar and RSVP below — you don’t want to miss this!\n\nREGISTER HERE to volunteer for the event. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdvMswU2T7Z-FR1sT57TbykBCG8dglmfm-IqcUOxWHkUO1p5A/viewform

SUMMARY:Line 5 Oil Tunnel Community Forum
DESCRIPTION:Enbridge wants to begin construction to extend the life of its 73-year-old Line 5 crude oil pipeline through the Great Lakes. Blasting tremors\, dust\, clogged roads from endless truck traffic\, and more will turn the Straits of Mackinac into an industrial zone for at least six years. \nJoin the Great Lakes Business Network\, the National Wildlife Federation\, and Oil & Water Don’t Mix for an in-person forum in Petoskey\, where we will break down the impacts and threats posed by this potential construction project. \nCome at 5:00 p.m. for a free Happy Hour with refreshments\, hors d’oeuvres\, and door prizes! Program begins at 5:30 p.m. \nCommunities and businesses are being left in the dark about the risks from Enbridge’s oil tunnel project. Learn the facts surrounding the industrial-scale construction in the heart of northern Michigan and the Great Lakes for five to six years. Anyone with an interest in tourism\, small businesses\, and quality of life anywhere near the tip of the mitt should attend. \nThis public forum is free and open to the public. \nBring your questions and concerns! \nRSVP here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/line-5-oil-tunnel-community-forum-tickets-1549797809969?utm-campaign=social&utm-content=attendeeshare&utm-medium=discovery&utm-term=listing&utm-source=cp&aff=ebdsshcopyurl

SUMMARY:Wisconsin Climate March - Madison
DESCRIPTION:We’ll march for solar power\, clean energy jobs\, science\, environmental justice\, conservation\, and democracy. The Wisconsin Climate March is part of a national wave of clean energy action\, capping off Climate Week (Sep 21–28) with a powerful call for a safe\, healthy\, and just future. We have the technology and solutions. Now we need the political will to make clean energy accessible to all! \nThe Wisconsin Climate March is a call to action to take our future back into our hands. \nFloods\, droughts\, storms\, and heatwaves are getting worse. Food and energy costs are going up while a few billionaires profit and prop up the industries that harm people and pollute our lands\, air\, and waters. \nIndigenous leaders from the Amazon to the Pacific have spoken out: our future is at stake. To solve the climate crisis\, the answer is us — the people. This September\, we will come together to draw the line against injustice\, pollution\, and violence – and for a future built on peace\, clean energy\, and fairness. \nScience itself is under attack.  Education and research in Wisconsin are threatened by funding cuts and attacks on academic freedom.  We call on our leaders to defend science funding and the right of a teacher to instruct and the right of a student to learn in an academic setting unhampered by outside interference. \n
