Webinar: Water Wars – How Corporations Play the Long Game

Join leaders in the campaigns to prevent the corporate takeover of water resources in this webinar that will reveal the strategies of the privatizers and discuss the strategies used by advocates to keep public water systems public.

Following a brief overview of new research from In the Public Interest, the panel will review the ways in which corporations used their resources to pass legislation wildly favorable to their interests, including the privatization-paving Act 12 in Pennsylvania, and the ways community activists studied, organized, fought back, and won.

Crown Jewels Film Screening

Patagonia Fulton Market - 1115 W Fulton Market, Chicago, IL 60607 Patagonia Fulton Market - 1115 W Fulton Market, Chicago, IL 60607, Chicago, IL, United States

Crown Jewels documents a year-long journey through some of the last ancient forests on US public lands, highlighting their crucial role in protecting our land, air, and water. Beyond their environmental benefits, these forests hold deep cultural and community significance as seen across West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Oregon. Threatened by imminent logging plans by the Forest Service, these ecosystems face permanent destruction unless widespread support for their protection is mobilized. The film advocates for viewers to leverage their freedom of speech to transform federal land management together, urging those who watch to join the effort through local activism and storytelling

MICHIGAN ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE COALITION ANNUAL SUMMIT

The Avalon Village 24 Avalon Street, Highland Park, MI, United States

There is an old west african proverb, “Sankofa” that roughly means “you cannot know where you are going unless you know where you come from.”

We are 8 years away from the 50th anniversary of Warren County, North Carolina where in 1982, a pivotal nonviolent protest erupted around a proposed hazardous waste landfill in a small, predominantly Black community. Since then, the environmental justice movement has grown to encompass communities across the United States who seek to ensure that those who are most impacted by climate change and the pollution that causes it have a say in the laws and policies that affect their everyday lives — that the injustices of the past are redressed and not repeated.

Every two years, hundreds of frontline and fenceline activists, allies, and accomplices convene at our Statewide EJ Summit to share stories and strategies for achieving a safer, cleaner, more vibrant future.
We have 3 goals this year:

1. Learn and contribute to the stories our environmental justice 'lineage' as it relates to injustice, strength, and triumph in our respective communities.

2. Vocalize and celebrate what is happening NOW towards the healthy world we are all fighting for and deserve.

3. Listen to and support the ideas of the near future and beyond.

Looking forward to seeing you all there!
